Spelling

I know many parents are interested in Spelling and Spelling tests. They begin in the program the 2nd week in March. I will send a list of words along with a pretest and a letter to get you started.

Homework

Reading nightly with your child for about 20 minutes is an important part of first grade.

~partner reading- you read a page, they read and page, alternate
~echo reading- you read and they mimic you
~choral reading- read together at the same time
~you read to them- this practices fluency & expression
~they read to you- this helps with decoding skills

Word Wall Words:
Drill these words for about 3-5 minutes each night. Automatic recall will help build fluency.

Math:
Practice both addition and subtraction facts to and within 10. Automatic recall is important for future math skills.
